This weekend we welcomed a new member to the family … a six-week-old Australian Shepherd Christopher named Maddy. (This is the picture that induced Craig and Chris to drive halfway across the state to get her!) Like all babies, Maddy is both a lot of work and a lot of fun. Her blue eyes will turn one day, we’re told. The Legal History of Adoption in the U.S.

“Kippa Herring” has posted several comments regarding the research of Professor Elizabeth Samuels, who published her overview of the legal history of adoption in the U.S. in the Rutgers Law Review ( Winter 2001), entitled  “The Idea of Adoption.”  Rather than print selected quotes from Samuel’s work, I’ve decided to refer you to the article so you can read it in its entirety. From Mighty Mom’s mailbag this week…. Two little boys, ages 8 and 10, were excessively mischievous. They were always getting into trouble and their parents knew all about it. If any mischief occurred in their town, the two boys were probably involved. The boys’ mother heard that a preacher in town had been successful in disciplining children, so she asked if he would speak with her boys. The preacher agreed, but he asked to see them individually. So the mother sent the 8 year old first, in the morning, with the older boy to see the preacher in the afternoon. These past two weeks (*whine*) have been a little rough on the gums. No one told me that when you have four wisdom teeth removed, the rest of your mouth aches in sympathy.
