Rejoicing For Joyce: Good-bye, Farewell

Anyone who has ever lost a loved one too suddenly to say goodbye will related to Lionel’s anguish as he shares this moving tribute to this EM at Rejoicing For Joyce. When our time is not God’s time (as so often happens in life), it helps to recall that there is no time in heaven. Though there is nothing more that we can do with or for our loved one here on earth (apart from the funeral), because of the love we share in Christ we are never separated wholly from those we love. We can ask God to bring that precious soul gently to […]

Mighty Mom Monday: A Day in My Life

Today for “Mighty Mom Monday” we’re going to send you over to Sarah’s  site, aptly called “My Wonderful Life.” This post, written almost one year ago today, is an important reminder of how much things can change in a very short time! (Something that can be a tremendous source of encouragement when life gets hard.) A week or so after I (Heidi) got our kids, I jotted down my own “classic post” called “Day in the Life of a Foster Mom.” Reading it again, I laugh. At the time, it was all I could do not to cry. (You’ve been there too, I’m sure.) Keep […]

What Military Families Wished You Knew: Guest Post from “Pops”

I’d like to welcome a friend of Mighty Mom’s, “Pops,” who generously responded to my call for an article about military families. As you can see, Pops is abundantly qualified to write on the subject … and I am so grateful to give EMN the benefit of his expertise! Hi,  they call me Pops,    I must thank Heidi for giving me the honor and privilege of posting on the Extraordinary Mom’s Network.  I would like to take a moment to tell you about me and my family.  I am the son of a World War II veteran who is the son of a World […]

What Does Your Doctor REALLY Think?

Ever wonder what your doctor writes about your family after each visit? According to one Australian blogger, the secret (often illegible, though that is slowly changing with computerized medical records) language of doctors has a subtext most of us are simply not privvy to — though it speaks volumes once you learn to interpret it. Especially during these next few months, when a presidential hopeful spouts off about nationalized health insurance it’s a good idea to keep in mind the big picture. Today I stumbled on this tongue-in-cheek post at “Dragonfly Initiative” (writes from Australia) entitled “How to Interpret Medical Letters.” Courtesy of “A Chronic Disease Blog,” […]

“It is in love that we are made” (National Catholic Register)

I was grieved and not a little aggravated to read this article in the National Catholic Register today. If I hadn’t read it with my own eyes, I would never have imagined that a respected Catholic publication such as NCR would permit such a blatant attack on what is at the heart a truly pro-life issue. As I’ve often said, adoption is never God’s first choice for a child. He intended children to be raised in the loving embrace of a man and woman joined for life in the sacrament of matrimony. When that bond is broken, yes the child suffers. So do the parents. And yet, […]

Feeling Fat?

Today Kate Wicker at Momopoly has an insightful post about women who struggle with their weight … in particular, how the number on the scale affects how they see themselves as a daughter of God. Thanks, Kate, for sharing your experiences with us!

Mighty Mom Monday: “You Might Be A Mommy…”

Mighty Mom (with a nod to Jeff Foxworthy) would like to encourage you today with this tribute to Extraordinary Moms everywhere. Sometimes knowing you’ve got company in the ol’ boat makes it that much easier to pull. Thanks, Sarah! If you have to make an intentional effort to take a shower at least every 48 hours … you MIGHT be a Mommy. If you go out for a dinner alone with your husband, hear a kid scream and have to look over just to make sure it isn’t one of yours … you MIGHT be a Mommy. If you no longer put “laundry” on your […]
